1/2 c Butter
1 c Sugar
1 ts Vanilla
3 Eggs
2 c Sifted cake flour
2 1/2 ts Baking powder
1/4 ts Soda
1/4 ts Salt
2/3 c Milk
1 Square (1-oz) unsweetened
-chocolate; melted and
-cooled
2 tb Hot water
1/8 ts Red food coloring

I always wanted my Grandma to make this cake for my birthday cake.

Cream butter and sugar till light. Add vanilla and eggs, one at a time,
beating well after each additiion. Sift together, baking powder, and salt.
Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating after each addition.
Combine remaining ingredients and stir into 1/3 of the batter. Alternate
batters by spoonsfuls in greased and lightly floured loaf pan (or 2 8″
round cake pans) and zigzag spatula through batter. Bake at 350F for 55 to
60 minutes (35 to 40 minutes for round pans).
