Ingrients & Directions

1/2 c Sugar
1/2 c Melted shortening
1/2 c Molasses
1 Egg
1/2 c Boiling water with 1 tsp
-bkg. soda added
2 c Flour
1 ts Salt
1 ts Cinnamon
1 ts Cloves
1 ts Nutmeg

Mix in order given. The dough will be quite soft for nice spreading
cookies or you can add a bit more flour for a slightly firmer dough and a
more upstanding cookie. They will still be moist and irresistable. Drop by
heaping tsp. or T onto sheet, depending on size of cookie you want. I make
nice 4-5 bite size ones…my brother always made enormous cookies. (I don’t
know if it’s ungr. or greased…..I always grease it to be on the safe
side) 🙂

Bake in preheated 350 oven for 10 to 15 min. Cool on racks.

Note: This recipe is originally from the Nova Scotia area and is a beloved
recipe that came from a neighbourhood mom in Ontario. I am only sharing it
because I can’t stand the thought of kids worldwide growing up
molasses-cookieless. 🙂
