Ingrients & Directions

2 2/3 c Flour
2 tb Baking powder
1/2 ts Salt
1/2 c Shortening; (4 oz.)
1 c Sugar
1 Egg
2 ts Grated orange peel
1/2 c Orange juice

FROSTING
2 c Confectioner’s sugar; sifted
1/2 c Butter or margarine; melted
1 ts Grated orange peel
1/4 c Orange juice

Sift the flour, baking powder and salt together. Beat the shortening until
light and creamy, adding the sugar gradually. Add egg and orange peel and
mix well. Add the dry ingredients alternately with the orange juice. Chill
in the refrigerator until the dough is stiff enough to handle – this will
take about an hour or more. Preheat oven to 375F. Roll the dough out to a
1/8-inch thickness on a lightly floured board. Cut with a 2-inch cookie
cutter. Place cookies on a cookie sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes or
till done. Mix all the frosting ingredients together until smooth. Frost
the cookies and decorate with a piece of candied orange peel if you have
it. Yield: about 5 dozen cookies. Contributed by allium #kitmailbox IRC
