Ingrients & Directions


1 c Butter or margarine
2 1/2 c Sugar
2 Eggs
3 c Flour
1/4 ts Salt
3 tb Cocoa
2 tb Vanilla
2 c Buttermilk
2 ts Soda (dissolved in milk)

-ICING-
1 Box powdered sugar
1/2 c Cocoa
1/4 ts Salt
1 ts Vanilla
3/4 Stick butter; softened
7 tb Boiling water

Cream sugar & butter. Add eggs, one at a time & beat well. Add dry
ingredients alternately with buttermilk & soda. Add vanilla. Bake in 3
layer pans at 350 until done (this is a large cake!). For icing, mix sugar
& cocoa. Add vanilla, water & salt. Stir until smooth. Add butter. Beat 3
minutes & pour over cake. (To make Fresh Coconut Cake, leave out cocoa &
substitute 1 teaspoon baking powder for 1 of the teaspoons soda. Add 1 cup
fresh coconut to icing.)
