Ingrients & Directions


1 c Shortening 1 1/4 c Flour, all-purpose
1 c Sugar 1 ts Soda
1 c Sugar, brown; firmly packed 1/2 ts Salt
2 Eggs 3 c Oats; uncooked (quick or
1/2 ts Vanilla extract – old-fashioned)

Combine shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla; beat until creamy. Sift
together flour, soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture; blend well.
Stir in oats.

Shape dough into 1″ balls. Place about 2 inches apart on greased
cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Cool about
2 minutes before removing from cookie sheets.

NOTE: For variety, add one of the following ingredients with the
oats: 1 cup raisins, 1 cup salted peanuts, 1 (6 oz.) package sem-swet
chocolate pieces, or a cup flaked coconut.
